The increased portability of mobile devices has resulted on the fact that they are not anymore perceived as distinct objects but more as integrated tools in our everyday activities. Furthermore, the development in the wireless communications offers the possibility of pervasive access to the services. These technological advancements have generated a major shift that is referred as ā€œtechnological convergenceā€, where the functionality of different devices has been blended to a single one. Different technologies such as WiFi, Bluetooth, Infrared, GSM networks etc. will be discussed in this course. Moreover the limited input capabilities, memory and processing power makes mobile development a important issue in the nowadays IT landscape. Different programming languages and cross-platform tools will also be discussed as a part of this course. Topics to be discussed as a part of this course are related but not limited to the following: Wireless communication architectures, Bluetooth, WiFi, GSM, Sensor networks, Mobile programming, Cross-platform frameworks, Mobile Internet, Design and development of mobile services
